There's a rule that applies to any aspect of life called Pareto's Law also known as the 80:20 principle.

The rule explains that 80% of results come from 20% of efforts aka. it feels like 80% of what you're doing is wasted effort.

The reason this nearly broke our business was because it nearly broke US….

We felt exhausted & frustrated that the efforts we were putting into our business weren’t paying us back proportionately.
​
We thought they should….right?!
​
Wrong.
​
It is this exact type of scenario where Pareto’s Law comes in to play.
​
The problem with this law is that it often isn’t possible to predict which efforts are wasted….
​
A really obvious example of this is posting content on social media.
​
You could post 100 reels and only 20 would actually help you gain traction or followers.
​
You can’t predict which of those 100 reels are going to be that 20 though, which means you have to post all 100.
​
We’ve experienced this first hand with our accounts @ellejeantodd and @thestoryoftrouble… we wouldn’t confidently be able to say the ratio is 80:20 but there is a lot of effort that goes technically “wasted” or unnoticed.
​
This same principle can be applied to lots of other aspects of your business.
​
You’ll spend hours working on your website for 80% of that time probably being wasted changing text sizes, positioning, copy etc only to revert back to your original design.
​
You’ll spend hours on the phone trying to convert a potential customer only for them to go elsewhere but then another lands in your inbox with little to no effort needed.
​
You’ll invest money into all sorts of different marketing methods for only a fraction of that converting into customers.
​
This is just how things work….
​
You will likely have to do lots of work which doesn’t feel like it’s giving you the return it should.
​
It might be that you do need to review how you’re doing things from time to time but sometimes it could just be Pareto’s Law.
